Bornheim becomes new girls hoops coach

After not renewing the contract of former varsity girls basketball head coach Jim Bageanis last March, Morton High School has opted to stay in-house with the recent hiring of Tracey Bornheim.

As the Morton High School baseball team looks ahead to the 2009 campaign, it does so expecting the starting pitching to be its foundation.

Morton's Anaya & Castillo excel at State Meet; Girls Softball wins IHSA Regional

Congratulations to the Boy's Track & Field Team. Max Anaya and Fernando Castillo had outstanding performances this weekend at the IHSA State Track & Field Championship Meet. Max Anaya was Morton's ninth straight pole vaulter in the state meet and finished 10th with a jump of 14 feet 3 inches. Fernando Castillo became Morton's second straight All-State selection placing 2nd in the 400m Dash with a time of 48.21 seconds. As a team Morton finished 34th out of 211 AA schools.

The Girls Softball team defeated Reavis on Saturday 4-0 to win the IHSA Regional at Reavis. Natalie Jaime had three hits and Gina Filomeno had two hits and knocked in three runs. Vlasta Mangia pitched her second consecutive shutout to get the win.


Morton softball season ends in sectional semifinal

Tom Eukovich summed up Morton's IHSA Class 4A sectional semifinal experience against Oak Park River Forest about as appropriate as possible:

"We put a scare in them," said the Mustangs' softball head coach.

Time to say goodbye
Morton softball assistant coach Vince LaPaglia instructed his final game on Wednesday. He retired after 15 years with the Mustangs.


Back-to-back regional titles for Morton softball

On May 10 at Kolar Field in Cicero, the Morton High School softball team was leading 8-0 against Reavis in the first game of a doubleheader on alumni night, and ended up getting swept by the Rams in both contests.

But exactly two weeks after the unexpected and devastating circumstances, the Mustangs were able to redeem the two losses with a 4-0 win at Reavis in an IHSA Class 4A regional championship on Saturday.
