Morton West High School is a four (4) year, 9-12 comprehensive high school that opened in 1958. Since the building opened, two student additions have been added in the 90's. W-wing was added to the south of the building and D-wing to the north. The student enrollment is about 3,200 students.


Message from the Principal - Mr. Joe Gunty

Morton West Parents/Guardians/Community Members,

As the 2nd semester of the 2009-2010 school year has begun, the building's administrators and faculty have been busy planning activities. One important event coming up shortly is our 2nd Semester Morton West Open House. This event is scheduled for Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm. We are inviting you to Morton West High School to meet with your child's 2nd semester teachers. During the evening, the teachers will provide you with information and expectations of each course.

You will be able to pick up a copy of your child's schedule prior to the beginning of the Open House on the evening of February 4th. In addition, we will be distributing 1st semester report cards along with their schedules. A print-out of your child's schedule along with their first semester's report card will be available for distribution beginning at 5:45 pm in the Student Cafeteria. You must pick up a copy of your child's schedule to attend classes in the order in which your child experiences them. Each class period will last for twelve minutes. Five minutes will be allowed for each passing period. The schedule for the evening is listed below:

Parents' Schedule Pick-Up - 5:45 to 6:25
1st Period Class - 6:30 to 6:42
2nd Period Class - 6:47 to 6:59
3rd Period Class - 7:04 to 7:16
4th Period Class - 7:21 to 7:33
5th Period Class - 7:38 to 7:50
6th Period Class - 7:55 to 8:07
7th Period Class - 8:12 to 8:24

Estimados Padres o Guardianes de Morton West,

Como el segundo semestre del año escolar 2009-2010 ha comenzado, la administración y la facultad de Morton West han estado ocupados planificando actividades para este año. Un acontecimiento importante que se aproxima es nuestra Apertura "Open House" del Segundo Semestre de Morton West. Este acontecimiento está planificado para el Jueves, 4 de Febrero, 2010 de 6:30 p.m. hasta las 8:30 p.m. Le invitamos a Morton West High School para que conozcan a los maestro/a de sus hijo/a. Durante esta tarde, los maestros le proporcionaran información y las expectativas de cada curso tomado por su hijo/a.

Usted podrá recoger una copia del itinerario de su hijo/a al inicio de la Apertura "Open House" que se llevara a cabo en la tarde del Jueves, 4 de Febrero. Tambien estaremos repartiendo el reporte de calificaciones de su estudiante del primer semestre. El itinerario de la tarde junto con el reporte de calificaciones de su hijo/a estarán disponible empezando a las 5:45 p.m. en la Cafetería estudiantil. Usted debe recoger la copia del itinerario escolar de su hijo/a para que proceder a las clases en la orden en cual su hijo/a las tiene y experimente lo que su hijo/a pasa diariamente. Morton West High School Building Goals - 2009-10

  • To improve the literacy of Morton West students by designing opportunities for all students to read and write extensively in every course.

  • To improve math proficiency of our students by working to shape new policies and potentially design/revamp our math courses in order to prepare Morton West students to be lifelong users of mathematical concepts and ideas.

  • To address Morton West's climate, safety, and student health issues through the development of a school-wide positive behavior support system.

  • To design staff development activities and establish time in order to take advantage of our teaming structure, thus creating opportunities for enhanced interdisciplinary instruction and articulation.

  • To continue to improve the collective attendance rate of Morton West students.

  • To decrease the school-wide failure rate of Morton West students

  • To improve the graduation rate of Morton West students.

  • To improve the overall achievement of Morton West students as we prepare them for the Prairie State Examination.

  • To continue to explore and implement strategies and practices to improve classroom instruction such as walkthroughs, use of researched-based literacy strategies and teaming opportunities.
