Morton East Students, Volunteers Commence Work on Peace Mural
On Thursday, May 21st at Cicero Town Hall, a collection of Morton East students were joined by Cicero Town President Larry Dominick, members of the Cicero Town Board and mentors from Illinois Tool Works as they officially commenced work on a special and symbolic peace mural that will represent each individual artist's hope and vision for their personal future and for the future of the greater Cicero community.

The mural project is a visual representation of a larger, strategic effort sponsored by President Dominick and the Cicero Town Board, Illinois Tool Works, the Cicero Youth Task Force, Corazon Community Services and the United Way, all working together to create new opportunities for Cicero's youth.

This spring, the United Way and the Cicero Youth Task Force conducted several visioning sessions aimed at bringing together local community citizens, civic groups, social service providers and other like-minded individuals and organizations to asses the town's gifts and assets, and identify areas most in need of assistance. The effort endeavors to provide for Cicero children the best opportunities to live a stable, healthy, independent and productive life.

The participating students in the mural project are part of the United Way's Latino Initiative program, which works to enable local children to successfully transition into adulthood, while instilling in them the importance of volunteerism, community involvement and advancement of the common good.
