MEDIA ADVISORY:

Gov. Quinn to Visit Morton East for Ceremonial Bill Signing, Special Screening of "A Forgotten Injustice"

Cicero, Illinois - Illinois Governor Pat Quinn will visit Morton East High School (2423 S. Austin Blvd) on Saturday, October 10th at 11:30am for a ceremonial signing of SB1557.

SB1557 establishes a requirement for all public elementary and high school curriculums to include a unit of instruction studying the events related to the forceful removal and illegal deportation of almost 2 million Mexican-American US citizens during the Great Depression.

Following the ceremonial bill signing, there will be a special screening of "A Forgotten Injustice", a documentary by Vicente Serrano uncovering the story of the 2 million Mexican-American US citizens who were forced to leave the United States during the Great Depression because of one reason alone: they were of Mexican descent. The film is the product of extensive, investigative, cross-country and international reporting by Serrano, including interviews with numerous noted historians, politicians and survivors.

"A Forgotten Injustice" premiered in October 2008 at Instituto Cervantes of Chicago to much acclaim and four sold out screenings.

Both events are open to the public.
