Morton High School District 201 Seeks Public Input During Superintendent Search

The Morton High School District 201 Board of Education is seeking input from the public in its search for the district's new superintendent.

"The Board of Education, along with the district's administrators, want to hear from 201 parents and residents," said Board of Education President Jeffry Pesek. "We are doing this for two reasons. First, our schools are funded mainly by local taxpayers. We respect that and believe they should have input in the important decisions we make. Second, we believe that opening this process up to the public and gathering their input will allow us to make the best, most informed decision we can make on a superintendent poised to tackle the unique challenges we face and lead our district confidently into the future."

What kind of superintendent would you like to see? Are the "people skills" of Morton's next superintendent most important to you? Or is it most important that they exhibit a "students first" philosophy to best manage the more than 8,000 students in our district family? And how should the district's next leader facilitate communication with the members of the Board of Education, district staff and administration, parents and our larger community?

These are the questions being asked of the Morton 201 community by the district's school board members as they continue their exhaustive search for a new superintendent.

"First Frank Zarate and then Clyde Senters have done remarkable jobs leading our district on an interim basis and they are to be commended," added Pesek. "However, there is general agreement on the need to move forward with all due speed to identify an individual prepared to provide the long-term stewardship our district needs and our students deserve."

Two public forums have been scheduled in January to ensure Board members are able to hear from the community on these critical questions. These "focus groups" will be held at each major district campus and are scheduled as follows:

Wednesday, January 7th
7:00pm
Morton West High School
2400 South Home Avenue, Berwyn

Wednesday, January 21st
7:00pm
Morton East High School
2423 South Austin Boulevard, Cicero

Community members interested in participating in these public forums are asked to call the District Office at (708) 222-5702 to register, as well as complete a "Leadership Profile Assessment" form prior to the meeting.

The "Leadership Profile Assessment" form is available on the district's website, www.jsmortonhs.com, under the heading "Curriculum & Instruction".

Anyone unable to access the form online can receive a hard copy at the District Office located at 3145 South 55th Avenue in Cicero.
